Thirty clear answers about cards, match time, special rules and everything a first-time viewer wants to know.
Basic rules
The essentials
1What is the Kings League?
A seven-a-side football competition with twists such as a giant die and Secret Cards. Match situations change quickly.
2How many players are on each team?
Normally seven per side including the goalkeeper. Numbers change during the opening ramp-up, the die phase, sanctions and after minute 36.
3How long is a match?
Regular time totals 36 minutes in two parts, with an approximately three-minute break after the first 20 minutes. There is no added time. Shootouts or Matchball Mode follow.
4Is the pitch full-size?
No. It is 47–65m long and 30–45m wide. The goals are 6m wide and 2m high.
5Is there offside?
Yes. A line across the front of each penalty area is the offside line. Standard offside applies beyond it; touching the line is not offside.
6Are substitutions allowed?
Yes. They are unlimited from minute 5 and use the midfield substitution lanes with a bib exchange. Before minute 5, only specified exceptions apply.
7Is play restarted with a throw-in?
Yes. Standard football throw-in rules apply: both hands, from behind and over the head, where the ball left the field.
8Can a match end in a draw?
A winner is decided in the match. A tie at minute 36 goes to five-second shootouts; otherwise Matchball Mode begins.
Match flow
From kick-off to the finish
9How does the match start?
One outfield player and one goalkeeper per team race from the goal line for a ball dropped from the overhead cage.
See the full match flow →10Does it start seven versus seven?
No. It begins with one outfield player plus a goalkeeper. One player joins each team every minute, reaching 7v7 at minute 5.
11What happens at minute 17?
A countdown starts at 16:50 and every goal counts double from 17:00 until the end of the first 20 minutes. Play restarts with a kick-off for the team without first possession at match start.
12Is there added time?
No. The referee’s whistle—not graphics or sound effects—ends each period.
13What is the giant die at the start of part two?
The six-sided die has two faces each for 3v3, 2v2 and 1v1 plus goalkeepers. A Kings or sponsor logo means 1v1 plus goalkeepers. The match returns to 7v7 at minute 23.
14Does 1v1 from the die mean no goalkeeper?
No. It means one outfield player plus a goalkeeper for each team.
15Does the match end if a team leads at minute 36?
No. Matchball Mode begins. A goal by the leader wins; if the trailing team equalizes, the next goal wins.
16Do player numbers decrease in Matchball Mode?
Yes: 5v5, 4v4, 3v3, 1v1 plus goalkeepers, then 2v2 with no mandatory goalkeeper.
Cards & fouls
Yellow, red and sanctions
17Are there yellow and red cards?
Yes. Normally a yellow means a two-minute exclusion. A red ejects the player and leaves the team short for five minutes.
18What happens after a yellow card?
The player normally leaves for two minutes and the team plays short. In die-phase 2v2 or 1v1 plus goalkeepers, the sanction may start at minute 23.
19What happens after a red card?
The player cannot return. The team plays short for five minutes, then may use a replacement.
20Do two yellows become a red?
Yes. The player is ejected and the team receives the same five-minute numerical penalty as for a red.
21What if the goalkeeper receives a yellow?
The goalkeeper is normally excluded for two minutes and replaced by a backup goalkeeper or an outfield player. Special small-sided exceptions apply.
22Do cards reduce numbers during Matchball Mode?
No. A yellow brings an opponent shootout and substitution; a red brings an opponent standard penalty and match ejection.
23Do accumulated yellows cause a suspension?
This Rules of the Game document gives no cross-match accumulation threshold. Check the competition and disciplinary regulations.

No. It may be activated from 5:00–16:59 and 23:00–35:59.
26What is the President Penalty?
A penalty taken by a team president who is physically present. The opponent may reply with a President Penalty or a player shootout.
27How is a shootout different from a penalty?
The player starts at midfield and has five seconds to complete a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, including dribbling.
28How many shootouts are taken after a tie?
Each team names five takers. If still tied after five rounds, alternating sudden death follows.
29When are goals worth two?
Every goal from minute 17 until the end of the first 20 minutes is worth two. A Double Goal card also gives one team four minutes of double goals.
30Is there VAR?
Yes, for goals, penalties, direct reds, mistaken identity and more. If the VAR view is unclear, the main referee reviews the monitor. No team-challenge system is specified.
